At Dr. Ruiz Productions, we don’t follow Hollywood’s lead – we challenge it.

“Representation” might be a buzzword in today’s industry, but not for us, it’s the reason we ever picked up a camera. Growing up, we didn’t see our stories on screen to the level we needed. Not with nuance nor dignity. When we did, they were often distorted, simplified, or reduced to stereotypes.

So we started this production company with one goal in mind: to make films that reflect the world we actually live in – complex, bilingual, beautiful, and deeply rooted in culture.

That’s the vision.

Our projects aren’t diversity checkboxes. They’re love letters to the people and places that raised us. We make films that center Mexican-American and Latino experiences, but the emotions in them – longing, love, identity, resilience – are universal. And that’s the power of culturally specific storytelling: the more personal it is, the more it resonates with everyone.

So when we are asked “Why this story?” Our answer is always the same.

Because it’s real. And because it matters.
